ABOUT BOLOGNESE

The Bolognese originated in Italy. They are small, stocky and squarely built. As they do not do well alone for long periods of time, they would not be well suited for people who work 9-5 outside the home. However, they are a calm, easy going dog and well suited for retirees, seniors and apartment living. They do not shed and are said to be hypoallergenic.

 

Although the Bolognese has only been in the US since 1982 and is considered a rare breed here, the Bolognese is a very old and distinguished breed in Europe dating as far back as 1200 AD. They were often given as gifts by royalty and are documented in many paintings with aristocrats.

 

These dogs are primarily bred for companionship, and when you have one you fully understand why. Being affectionate and caring, they have an innate ability to comfort and console. They love their people deeply, as well as children and friends they haven’t met yet. They are easily trainable and get along well with other animals.
